FAMILY HELP AND CONSULTATION

I believe that most families have the resources they need to solve their own problems. You are the experts on your family.

The child or young person who appears to have the problem is often only the "carrier" of the problem that really belongs to the family!

It has been useful and enlightening to families when they have all come for a conference together at some point during the time I am working with the young person.

If this seems appropriate to your family, I will consult the young person to see if they would find it helpful, and then ask you what you think.

If we decide to go ahead, the family decides on a convenient time and we spend up to one-and-a-half hours together looking at what is going on. I keep everyone safe, help them to explore how their family works and ensure that everyone gets a chance to be heard and to listen to other family members.

When we do this, something seems to shift and everyone finds a way forward, using the skills and gifts that the family already had. The child or young person is then relieved of being "the one with the problem" and everyone can start resolving things.

Even if your child is not attending sessions with me, if you think this kind of meeting might help you and your family, do please get in touch and we can discuss it. Nothing is insurmountable.
