REFLECTING TIME FOR TEACHERS
I currently supervise teaching assistants in some special work they are doing with vulnerable children in their schools. For this part of my work, I travel to the school.
It has become obvious that the staff very much enjoy and benefit from having a set space in which they can think about what is going on for certain hard-to-teach children and what approach they might use psychologically to enable the youngster to access the curriculum.
Many of these vulnerable children have backgrounds and contexts that affect their ability to attach to adults/teachers etc in a meaningful way. Without this ability they are unable to learn in the classroom.
There are many ways to understand attachment issues and staff are usually pleased to gain knowledge and understanding that will help them do what they are trained to do teach and inspire young people.
I am happy to work with small groups of teachers at a suitable time to allow them this space for reflection, learning and understanding. If you are interested in discussing this possibility, do please contact me and we can talk further and work out what sort of arrangement would be manageable for you.
