WHAT DOES PITSTOP OFFER?

Some form of play therapy is usually appropriate and useful with under 12s.

Children from 9 to 13 often use a mixture of talk, play, art or structured activity to resolve what is worrying them.

Older young people may prefer to simply talk about their problems and work

out what they wish to do about them. This is counselling, though it often includes agreed activities that help communication and problem-solving.

Where it will be useful in therapy, I also use EMDR and EFT - two extra tools that help resolve trauma and other problems quickly and cleanly.

Pitstop operates from a playroom/counselling room in my house in North Northumberland on the A696 – or I can use a room at a GP surgery or school if this can be arranged.

I also work closely with parents and am happy to show them how to play therapeutically with their younger children so that the benefits can continue once formal therapy stops.

Although initial contact is usually made with the parent, it is important that the child or young person takes part willingly. A visit to my premises is helpful in allaying any anxieties they may have about me, the room and what may happen during a session.
